St. Mary Medical Center is a 366-bed community hospital founded in 1973. Through its Heart & Vascular Center, Regional Cancer Center, Orthopedic Center, and Emergency Services and Trauma Center, St. Mary provides comprehensive regional health services.
Jack Hulme Design performed a campus-wide wayfinding evaluation for St. Mary Medical Center. The interior and exterior signage study categorized signage and provided recommendations for improvement. A prototype interior sign program was developed following the study.
The prototype signage was incorporated into the new St. Clare Medical Building, which opened in March 2008. The four-story, 102,000 square foot facility houses the Sleep/Wake Disorder and Pain Management Center. Jack Hulme Design teamed with MRA Group and for the St. Clare sign roll-out. The prototype signage is presently being expanded hospital-wide.
An additional project in Jack Hulme Design’s ongoing relationship with St. Mary Medical Center was the development of a donor recognition and interpretive signage program for various campus gardens. The Healing Gardens at St. Mary Medical Center were started in 2001 as a way to promote relaxation, meditation, and physical activity for the local community. The gardens are incorporated into hospital grounds adjacent to local Core Creek Park. The hospital literally took the garden concept to a higher level with development of new rooftop gardens to promote sustainability and offer patients improved views. Jack Hulme Design collaborated with landscape designers Carter van Dyke Associates to develop content and imagery for the interpretive signage.
Rooftop garden interpretive signage explains the energy efficiency and environmental benefits of the gardens and recognizes the generous donors who made each garden possible. As part of the signage responsibilities, a donor brochure was also developed by Jack Hulme Design.
